10 Hairstyle Tips That Can Help You Enhance Your Facial Features

Beauty is a multifaceted concept with a lot of nuances. While societal standards exist, we all have our own personal preferences. If there's a part of our body or face that we’re not fond of, it can lead to discomfort and even impact our self-esteem. However, when it comes to small "imperfections" in facial features, many of them can be minimized or even disguised by simply altering your hairstyle.

1. Close-set eyes

Eyes are considered close-set when the space between them is less than the width of one eye. In Jennifer's first image, you might notice that her face appears long, and her eyes, being close together and small, may not seem to fill the space as much as expected. However, in the second photo, the overall look appears more balanced.

By covering the temples with hair, you can diminish the appearance of empty space, making the face appear narrower and longer, effectively minimizing the perception of close-set eyes. A long side fringe would be an ideal choice in this scenario.

2. Prominent jaw

To balance a prominent jawline, you have two main options. The first is to add width to the upper part of your face, focusing on the cheeks and forehead. The second is to make the jawline appear narrower. Straight-cut bangs and long, layered-free hair are great choices for achieving this balance.

In the second image, Angelina chose a hairstyle with minimal volume at the top, but with waves starting from the cheeks downward. This creates movement and helps make her jawline appear slimmer.

3. Dark circles under the eyes

This trick lies more in the color contrast than the hairstyle itself. Darker hair tones tend to emphasize the natural darkness of under-eye circles, bags, and wrinkles. Deep colors can also sharpen facial features, making them more pronounced.

It's important to choose hairstyles that enhance a person's appearance without relying on blunt cuts. A style with movement around the eye level works wonderfully. The goal is to brighten and bring life to the eye area by using both color contrast and the right hairstyle.

4. Big forehead

This trick lies more in the color contrast than the hairstyle itself. Darker hair tones tend to emphasize the natural darkness of under-eye circles, bags, and wrinkles. Deep colors can also sharpen facial features, making them more pronounced.

5. Chin

Haircuts that add volume to the top of the head, like short layered cuts, blunt bangs, and chin-length bobs, can be excellent choices. However, long hair with ends that are tapered or layered around the jawline is ideal for disguising a double chin.

In this case, Christina combined both approaches: a fringe that adds volume at the top of her head, paired with a swept-back style on the lower half to reduce emphasis on her chin and neck.

6. Very large mouth

To downplay a large mouth, focus on adding width to the lower part of your face and around the cheeks. Unlike the previous case, the goal here is to keep the area around the mouth uncluttered while framing it with volume and movement.

This approach will make the lower part of your face appear larger, thereby making the mouth look smaller. A long, layered cut that falls below the shoulders is ideal for this effect, and when paired with waves or curls, the result is outstanding.

7. Wide-spaced eyes

If your eyes are wide-set, it's best to avoid adding too much volume at the fringe where the eyes meet, as this can accentuate the distance between them. A middle parting is a simple yet effective solution.

A center parting draws attention to the middle of the face, helping the eyes appear closer together. Additionally, parting your hair down the center and adding length emphasizes facial symmetry.

8. Wide nose

Yes, your hairstyle can also influence how wide or narrow your nose appears. It's all about using shapes to your advantage. Curls, waves, and cuts that add width to the face are ideal. When your face appears wider, a larger nose looks more proportionate, creating a more harmonious overall look.

Asymmetry can also be a great choice. If you typically wear a middle parting and want to balance your nose, try switching to a side part. You'll notice a significant difference.

9. Droopy eyes

Avoid hairstyles that emphasize the downward lines of your eyes, as seen in the first image. Instead, choose styles that lift the hair or add movement. Ponytails are a great option, as they can make the eyes appear larger and, when pulled tight, even give them a lifted look.

In fact, a viral beauty hack among online gurus shows how to achieve a "foxy eyes" effect with just a hairstyle. The trick involves sectioning off the hair at the crown and taking two strands from each side of the temples. These strands are then tied tightly at the back with a rubber band. The hair at the crown is left to fall over, concealing the tied sections.

10. Small mouth

If you want to make a small mouth appear larger, start by minimizing volume on the sides of your jaw and neck. Opting for short hair that stays above the chin can be effective.

Haircuts that frame the sides up to the chin make the jawline appear narrower and thinner, better aligning with the proportions of a smaller mouth.

As for me, I don’t have a face to feature, but I’m always interested in hearing about what people like most about their own features and how they enhance them. What’s your favorite feature, and what do you do to highlight it?
